A comparison of density between water, vegetable oil and honey.

Abstract         The purpose of the search is to identify the density of vegetable oil, honey and water. A statistical analysis of the collected data showed that the density of an object made from a comparatively dense material will have less volume than an object of equal mass made from some less dense substance. The results show that when the three solutions were mingled together it will separate into three different layers. That is vegetable oil at the first layer, followed by water and honey.

From physical point of view, density has already discovered by Archimedes in 75 B.C. In his work 'The Floating Bodies', this principle is known as the 'Archimedes Principle' which states that the apparent weight of an object weighed in a fluid is smaller than its true weight. Archimedes also describe the effect of buoyancy in which the apparent weight loss is the weight of fluid displaced by the object.
Many papers have been published about the density of many solution. Such as the density of the Dead Sea (Clark et al., 1934), gold (Mariana et al., 2010) and sugar solution (Chunying et al., 2010).
Density (symbol: ρ - Greek: rho) is a measure of mass per volume. The average density of an object equals its total mass divided by its total volume. An object made from a comparatively dense material (such as iron) will have less volume than an object of equal mass made from some less dense substance (such as water) ( Density . New W.E 2008, April 3). 
A study have been done about a physical properties of honey (White Jr.,) the author focused that Honey contains trace amounts of several vitamins and minerals. As with all nutritive sweeteners, honey is mostly sugars and is not a significant source of vitamins or minerals. Honey also contains tiny amounts of several compounds thought to function as antioxidants, including chrysin, pinobanksin, vitamin C, catalase, and pinocembrin (Martos et al. 2000; Gheldof et al. 2002).Honey has a density of about 1.36 kilograms per liter that is 36 percent denser than water (Krell 1996).

Besides, Inga D et all (2000) stated that Vegetable oil has a density of 910 to 930 kilograms per cubic meter or 0.91 to 0.93 grams per cubic centimeter. Therefore it is lighter than water and floats on it.

Next, in this research we also use water as a constant.(Water . New W.E 2008, November 15) stated that density is 0.998 g/cm³ (liquid at 20 °C) and phase is  0.92 g/cm³ (solid). A simple but environmentally important and unusual property of water is that its solid form, ice, floats on its liquid form, because ice has a lower density than liquid water. By contrast, for almost all other substances, the solid form has a higher density than the liquid form.

The aim of the present work is to compare the density of vegetable oil, honey and water.the result can be seen physically through the experiment when the solution are mixed together in a beaker. Theoretically, when we put honey, water and vegetable oil, honey will sink to the bottom and followed by water and then vegetable oil. Thus, this research is meant to investigate the reasons behind it and perhaps it will lead us to solve other world problem such as oil spill problem.

Materials and methods
Chemicals and apparatus
150 ml of honey, 150 ml of vegetable oil and 150 ml of water (H2O) was prepared by using distillation process. Three beakers (150 ml), and 500 ml beaker were used.
Sample preparation
50 ml of each type of liquid was measured into the 3 (150 ml beaker). First, the honey liquid was poured into the 500 ml beaker. It was poured slowly into the center of the beaker. Then, the water was poured into the beaker slowly. After that, wait a second for the solution to be settled before adding another solution. Next, the vegetable oil was poured into the beaker after the water had settled with the honey.

Table 1 and 2 show the mass of water, honey and oil for 0.05L and 0.1L. Based on the observation, the reading shows that the mass for 0.05 L of honey, water and oil were **** kg, ****kg and ****kg respectively whereas the mass for 0.05 L of honey, water and oil were **** kg, **** kg, and **** kg respectively.
From the data in Table 3, it can be seen that for 0.05L of every tested solution, the density of honey was highest, followed by water and oil at ****kg/L, 0.9992 kg/L  and **** kg/L respectively.  Then, from the last column which is 0.1L, the result is slightly the same but the density value is a little bit different which is **** kg/L, **** kg/L and **** kg/L respectively.

From chart 1, the statistical significance among the result values of the different solution was evaluated by using the theoretical formula which is mass of the solution over volume. From the bar chart, it shows clearly the differences between these three solution as mentioned above.
Based on the observation, honey sank to the bottom of the beaker. Then after the water had been poured into the beaker, the water did not mingle together with the honey. Same thing occur after the oil was added. It shows that the honey was at the bottom (third layer), followed by water (second layer) and oil (first layer). Eventhough the beaker had been shaken violently, it is still the same.
As pointed out in the introduction several authors have investigated about the density of honey, water and oil. But it is difficult to compare their result with those presented here. In fact concentration of all the solution used was different, and this vary might affect the result. Besides, Inga, D. et all (2000) stated that vegetable oil has a density of 910 to 930 kilograms per cubic meter or 0.91 to 0.93 grams per cubic centimeter. Therefore it is lighter than water and floats on it. For the water solution, the difference of the density was affected by the temperature of water. Different water density has its own density .

Our result shows that there is a slight difference between the density of honey, water and oil. That is why when this three solution were mingled together it separated into three different layer, whereby the oil is at the first layer, followed by water and honey. The least the density of the solution, the higher it chances to float. Further studies are needed to investigate deeply about the characteristic of each solution and its density.

~UMK here i come~

Hari berganti dengan pastas. Rasa macam baru semalam ja last paper PPKS UMK 11/12. And now, the time to regis at UMK for Bachelor of Applied Science Product Development Technology with honors for 4 years....

o, before i forgot... i had satu benda nak gtau kat u all... Last Sunday, i attend "Sambutan Hari Guru KMK & Majlis Pelancaran Program Akademik" aka Anugerah Cemerlang la... Alhamdulillah... Ana merupakan salah seorang penerima anugerah,,, Man Jadda Wajada, Waman Zara'a, Hasoda, ( siapa yang berusaha dia akan berjaya, dan siapa yang menanam, dia akan dapat hasil tuaiannya)

~bersabarlah, masanya akan tiba~

~bersabarlah, masanya akan tiba~

Salam, hari ahad berkunjung sudah. Petang tadi, ana tengok satu karton epik Thailand mungkin, "Jumbo Si Gajah Biru". Memang tak dapat dinafikan JSGB merupakan satu siri animasi epik yang hebat. Jika Malaysia dulu pernah ada kisah animasi lagenda "Bawang Putih, Bawang Merah" yang menerapkan nilai-nilai kemasyarakatan dalam siri animasinya, tetapi JSGB pula menerapkan ciri-ciri sejarah yang cukup menarik dan aspek kasih sayang diantara gajah diraja, Jumbo dan isterinya, Luna (if i'm not mistaken) beserta dua anak-anak mereka. Walaupun dalam bentuk animasi yang berjiwa "mati", namun emosi yang cuba disampaikan berjaya sampai kehati ana... hehehhe... (leleh beb)

Lepas tengok, ana memang terfikir jika filem2 epik malaysia dapat di animasikan mesti awesome kan? hehehhe

urm, cakap ttg perasaan, tadi ana terbaca satu artikel di "i luv" ttg cinta... dalam apa dok baca-baca tukan, ana terfikir, bila la masanya akan tiba kan? then, ana teruskan baca dan baca... sampai satu part yang ana dapat conclude... berbunyi ... " bersabarlah wahai hati, saatnya pasti tiba, perkuaatkan iman kayakan akhlak, kerna wanita solehah buat jejaka yang soleh"... 

betul, masanya akan tiba dengan sendiri! mungkin belum bertemu dengan insan sesuai dan mungkin Allah mahu kita perkemaskan diri untuk itu... 

so, what are u waiting for... smile!

~ Peluang didepan mata, Nak ke tak nak je..~

Hari ni, ana nak share 1 cerita. Kisah ni bukan tentang sape2 o what ever la, ini kisah AZAM DAN KELUARGANYA... hahahha. Ramai yang bertanya bila ana buat keputusan nak mendaftar di persediaan UMK. Ni sebabnya, as UMK menekankan aspek entrepreneurship selagi itulah ana nekad nak masuk. OK, enough with that, if u all nak tau lebih lanjut PM je kat emel or FB ok. 

Kembali dengan topic, tadi ana pergi rumah akak ana, dia ni biase2 je orang kata (kerja kampung). Tetapi disebalik pekerjaannya itu, ramai yang tidak menyangka income dia bulan2... Memang antara sebab ana minat bisnes ni adalah pengaruh dari keluarga juga sampai dah rase mcm drh daging je dengan bisnes ni hahha.... (see, terpesong lagi)... 
mmg nampak susah sikit, tapi kini, asbab usaha dan sikap dia yang xmensia-siakan peluang yang didepan mata, tengok apa yang dia telah perolehi... Memang kisah ini kurang menarik mungkin, tapi cukup memberi inspirasi buat ana. (harap juga buat kalian begitu)...

Then, husband dia ajak ana pergi ambil sampan di sungai ( nama sungai tu sg air mati kot)... ana ikut dia, Subhanallah... memang terbaeek la tempat tu... tapi rugi, time tu ana tertinggal fon, so no picture for today... (",) ...

~hadiah yang cukup suspen?~

by referring to the tittle, apa yang anda dapat jangkakan dengan entry Ana kali ni? Birthday? no,no,no.. bukan birthday.. tapi, ianya satu "hadiah" yang cukup suspen dari Allah, Tuhan sekalian alam. "Hadiah" yang dimaksudkan adalah, hari esok...

"Hari Esok" merupakan satu hadiah yang memang tidak dapat sesiapapun jangkakan walau kita ada tentatif untuk setahun sekalipun. Apa yang akan berlaku pada hari esok, adalah satu anugerahNya buat kita. Dalam pada itu, bagi Ana, dalam menanti hari esok, setiap dari kita pasti terdetik .. " Ya Allah, harap2 esok dapat la aku ...." atau pun ... " Ya Rabb, lancarkanlah urusan ku ini.."... lihat... disini sudah terbukti keAgunganNya yang Maha Pencipta... Dia merahsiakan hari esok agar kita terus bersandar padaNya... sweet kan?... :-)


ok, as u all know, i am working now... Ana nak share la dengan anda beberapa gambar dijeti time ana nak tunggu boat waktu perjalanan pergi dan pulang kerja...

sorry sebab gambar ni gelap. Ni la Sungai Perak. Kalau nak lintas sungai ni naik boat makan masa dalam 5-6 minit.

Hurm, merujuk topik hari ni, "Setiap Orang Ada Lagu" bukanlah merujuk yang setiap orang ada lagunya tersendiri seperti artis2 tu kan... 
Tetapi, apa yang cuba ana bawakan hari ni adalah, setiap orang pasti or mungkin ada satu lagu or muzik yang dapat membangkitkan anda dikala kejatuhan. 

Untuk ana, ana suka lagu "Hampir Ke Situ" nyanyian Medua... bagi ana lagu ni ada satu spirit yang dapat membangkitkan semangat... memanglah, lebih elok kita memohon kepadaNya dikala kita berada dalam kesukaran dan kesulitan... Ana tidak menafikan keutamaan itu...

2 in 1 .. Renungan Bersama..dan Cemerlangkah Aku?


Hari ni ada 2 benda yang menarik yang Ana nak share dengan pembaca semua,

1) Masa Ana nak pergi kerja pagi ni (4/7/12), masa tu kat Jeti,actually, jalan untuk orang kg aku ke pekan Teluk Intan ada 2, satu melalui jambatan untuk lintas sungai perak tapi mengambil masa yang panjang (lebih kurang 1 jam). Satu jalan lagi,,, yang ni mmg jalan yang Ana paling suke, sebab? sebabnya, cepat walaupun terpaksa melalui jalan Estate dan naik BOAT untuk lintas sungai perak. Jalan ni cume ambil masa lebih kurang 20 minit aje...

Kisahnya, ada sorang uncle Chinese ni (dia pun tgh tunggu boat jugak), dia tanya la sorang brader yang duduk sebelah dia. " wa tengok lu orang Islam, ada puasa, ada tadak puasa, itu yang tadak puasa bedosa kan?"... Brader yang duduk sebelah dia tu pun jawab la dengan penuh berhemah. Tapi Ana solute la kat brader tu, sebab dia jawab dengan tenang dan jelas. Berdasarkan jawapan dia tu dapat menggambarkan yang islam ni tak susah... tapi, dalam respect, Ana jadi malu dengan Uncle tu selaku Muslim kan, Bak kata orang " cubit peha kanan, peha kiri terasa sakitnya"...  Uncle tu tau banyak bende pasal puasa, cume ana dapt agak uncle tu masih tak faham mcm mana kanak-kanak berusia 7 tahun boleh puasa, dan macm mana orang sakit puasa.. dalm hati, ana doakan uncle ni akan bertemu dengan Hidayah Allah....

2) Tadi, time kat ofis, ana dapt call dari Pn Ani ( Ketua Jabatan Kolej Mara Kulim)... terkezut jugak,,, katanya, ana dijemput untuk hadir masa sambutan hari guru KMK 15/7/12 akan datang sebagai jemputan barisan pelajar CEMERLANG... Wah, thats really mengejutkan ana... mcm xpercaya, PELAJAR CEMERLANG? really am i? haha,, sepanjang sejarah pendidikan ana, memang ini yang ana idamkan... dari sekolh rendah lagi, tapi.. hampa.. ana bukan dilandasan yang tepat, tapi sekarang... i think i did to make my first step to achieve my kejayaan...
